With over 30 years of live performing experience, you can rest assured that the 2am guys are some of the best. Having performed all over Victoria and worked with some of the most well-known names in the business. They have also covered just about every kind of show there is. Bars, restaurants, pubs, private homes, receptions, wineries, big event venues, festivals… they have done them all.
2am are Alex Papas and Paul Hillier. Alex performs on vocals and percussion. Starting out on the drum kit at the age of three, Alex showed great passion for music and entertaining. A live performer now for a good 16 years, in both full bands and duo’s, Alex is also constantly called upon by many Melbourne acts for session and fill-in work. Paul first picked up a guitar at the age of 13. After studying music he began a career of performing live shows primarily in acoustic duos. Along the journey he has filled in for various cover bands, trio’s and duo’s on the circuit. With a career that has now spanned over 15 years, Paul is an extremely accomplished musician. Between the two of them, Alex and Paul have performed in hundreds of venues throughout Victoria.
The project was started back in the late 90’s with a couple of goals in mind. Firstly, to try and perform songs that were not only successful, but are also not the same songs performed “week in week out” by most cover acts in Melbourne. Secondly, to provide a sound that would separate the duo from all the others who get up in front of audiences with only two guitars or a backing track. To do this, they’ve incorporated a variety of different percussive instruments such as a shaker, tambourine, stomp box and even bongos. They believe this approach adds a lot more “colour” to the live performance of some much loved songs. Hopefully, you will too.
